DJ-X2 Mods

DJ-x2 or DJ-X2E  Worldwide programming hack

Hi there.

I have an Alinco DJ-X2E, but I live in the United States, where the appropriate model is the DX-J2.

Therefore, I was faced with a radio that would receive AM broadcasts on "foreign" 9KHz spacing, instead of USA 10KHz spacing.
The same was true for the FM band, because the FM  bands are also different in different global regions.

The free programming utility saves the file as a text-based file that can be manually edited. The file contains the default channel spacing's for TV and radio, as well as the memory items the user has added  to the radio.

The attachment describes how I edited the file and the procedure for making the DJ-X2E work in the USA. The reverse procedure should make the J-X2 work in other parts of the world where spacing's are not the same. It is not quite obvious, but when you select your radio model, the file is edited for you, to give the default items for that model. This is a work-around for DJ-X2* users to allow
them to use the radio anywhere.

This software enables you to program frequencies and set parameters on any version of DJ-X2(US,Europe,Japan and Canada). The 800MHz cellular band can't be modified by any means, and inversion scrambler decoder feature is blocked for the "T" model according to the U.S. legal requirements.

(setupx2_1.3.2.exe) (4.47MB)

This version 1.3.2 (updated Dec., 2001) is improved with some changes:

  • Added Tab menu for quick direct access to the various tabbed settings pages.
  • Export and import functions now process VFO settings.
  • Export and import functions now honor the Windows settings for decimal and thousands separators.
  • Print modified to allow choice of which settings tabs to print from.
  • Search pass frequencies are sorted for ease of reviewing.
  • Added Katakana support for channel notes.
  • Minor bugs fixed.
Please remember that you must have the ERW-4 computer interface cable in order to connect your DJ-X2 to your computer. A simple connection cable may not work properly. The USB conversion cable may not work properly either so please use the serial port.

To operate this software the DJ-X2 must be in the "CLONE" mode. Please connect the ERW-4C cable to a serial port and the earphone jack of the unit, boot up the software (make sure the COM PORT setting in the Receiver menu) then turn on the DJ-X2 with VOL/SET key pressed (refer the instruction manual P.26). When the operation is done and the "PASS" appears on the screen, please turn off the unit then remove the cable from the unit.
