Cross-band procedure
 

Remove D136 for mini repeater and sub-band remote control function."

"No installed D136 in the USA-1 version (#05)."

The D136 is the right diode on the 8th row.

I have not tested this.

 

                    


I have tested on my IC2820 the diodes guide for extended bands. Please, open the down side and look at the two rows of diodes on the right side, placed vertically (foto 1).

                               

From up to down (foto 2):

                               

	First diode is not present
	Remove second diode:	144-150 Mhz		430-450 Mhz    auto-repeater USA
+	Remove fourth diode:	144-148 Mhz		430-450 Mhz
+	Remove fifth diode:	144-148 Mhz		400-470 Mhz
+	Remove sixth diode:	137-174 Mhz		400-470 Mhz
+	Seventh diode apparently it doesn't change anything ????????????
	Applying the eighth:	cross-band is activated

To activate cross-band procedure, press and hold two main band knobs and press ; the radio will beep and the key symbol on the left side of the display will flash; now the radio is now active in the cross-band mode.

To cancel the cross-band repeat function, please press <F>.

Cross-band  Portuguese Mods  IC-2820H

A necessidade de utilizarmos 0 cross- band, conhecido como banda cruzada, que alguns equipamentos dispoem, é uma mais
valia, especialmente quando nao queremos ou nao podemos estar parados no mesmo si- tio, dando-nos assim uma maior mobilida-
de. Um dia, quando comprei 0 meu ICOM IC-E2820 fiz a devida alteracao para poder fazer crossband em FM pois permitia-me
muita mobilidade. Apesar de alguns dizerem que ao activarmos 0 cross band no dito 2820, ficamos impossibilitados de usar 0
sistema D-Star, cheguei it conclusao que nao é verdade, pois usa 0 DStar, e a mesma alteracao foi feita em dois equipamentos
2820 que possuo. Presumo que, a razao de alguns dizerem que a funcao D-Star é desactivada COlll a activacao do crossband,
que tent a ver com alteracoes para equipamentos de versao americana aplicadas nos europeus e nao alteracoes proprias para as
versoes europeias. Conforme apresento abaixo, segundo autor: HB9DRX, passe a citar:

Remover os dois dlodos amarelos ini expandir a banda em TX de VHF/UHF

• Ao remover os dois diodos a rosa, Ira ex- pandir a banda em RX de VHF/UHF (que na maioria dos casos nuo é preciso fazer altera-
QUo pois por defeito os modelos europeus em todos assim de fabrica)

Para ligar 0 cross- band, carregar nos dois KNOBS (os dois botões grandes de cada VFO) ao mesmo tem-po e de seguida a tecla que tern uma chave, tudo em simultaneo até que a chavecomece a piscar no ecrã do radio.

Atenção o cross band só fonciona com a banda de VHF no BFO do lado esquerdo e UHF do lado direito.

Após a alteração do  a alteração do hardware come explica antes se tentar fazer cross band  em DV, nos dois BFO's vãover que não é possivel, pois o rádio náo activa o cross band em DStar.

Somples operaçã fazendo o seguinte.

1º verefique que no menu do radio em que vai estar o Cross band  se esta em  opcao Digital Monitore se esta em "Auto "  se nao estiver altere.

2º Escolher uma frequencia em VHF e outra em UHF para o Cross Band.

3º Escoha em ambos VFOs a modulação ( MODO )  FM.

4º  Ligar o Cross band, desta forma o radio fica apto para Cross band em FM e tambem em DStar !! Mas para foncionar é mesmo necessário  que ambos VFOs não tenham TONES  ou encoders ligados e que a opção DIGITAL MONITOR esteja em AUTO.

5º  Para que o radio fique mais imune de ruidos  feche um pouco o Squelch mas não exagere para não perder a sensibilidade.

6º  Se activar o (  DUP  )  e alterar o Shft de frquencia para 0.000 Mhz como se foce para ligar ao repetidor isto serve para nao descermos de frequencia  pois estamos a usar uma frequencia directa em Cross Band.

Expand TX and RX for IC-E2820 (European version)

 Open the bottom part of the radio

 Remove red diode: cross band & sub-band remote control enabled.

 Remove 2 yellow diodes: VHF/UHF TX full expand.

 Remove 2 pink diodes: VHF/UHF RX full expand. (Standard in most EU-versions)

Be careful and do the mods at your own risk! Mod 100% tested on my IC-E2820.

RX Fan Silencer Mod

I use my IC-2820 mainly for RX. Annoying is the FAN, which swiches on / of during the day,

and produces a lot of noise, while i do not find the Icom 'hot' or even 'warm'.

Icom designed the fan circuit in such a way, the fan switches on at approx 28 degrees C. I

dived in the circuitry, and found a way to lift this temperature to approx 35 degrees C.

The mod if fairly simple, by just replacing a resistor, however the difficulty rate goes sky

high if you see how large the resistors are these days.

We are talking about R510 on the main unit. The resistor is located under the speaker, and

can be accessed by lifting the top cover, and removing the speaker. At the top of the

diagonally placed IC25 you will find the resistor. It is attached to PIN 71 of IC25.

I marked the resistor in RED on the picture below.

You can do 2 things:

1. Replace the resistor (originally 39 kOhm) with a resistor of 22 kOhm.

2. solder a resistor in parallel with the original one.

in that case, you don't have to remove the very small original resistor, and thus can

make things easier. You will need a resistor of 56 kOhm to use this method.

If you successfully modified the IC-2820, you will never hear the fan again in normal

circumstances.

My fan is silent for over 6 months, and my rig works just fine.
