IC-7000 TV Enable Reception |
IC-7000 Modifications
This information is for
educational purposes ONLY This is a Reversible modification.
Do NOT use this
modification if you are using this unit mobile. It is against the law in
most jurisdictions to have TV reception where the driver may see the
screen.
DO use this as a BASE
MODIFICATION ONLY.
TV Reception:
1. Remove the top cover
of the unit. (There are only 8 screws holding the cover in place, do NOT
remove the four screws surrounding the speaker.)
2. Gently unplug the
speaker wire and set the top to the side.
3. Gently lift the
"Tuner Control Socket" and lift out of the way.
4. Remove DSP unit by
unscrewing two silver screws holding it down. (The silver box on the top
of the radio under the cover, with copper taped sides) One of the screws
was under the tuner socket control wires. Pull the unit straight up.
5. Almost directly in
the middle towards the front of where the DSP plugs is a Solder jumper.
It is the ONLY solder jumper on the board.
6. Remove that jumper
with wick or sucker. (DO NOT REMOVE DIODES AS IN OTHER DIRECTIONS.)
7. Reassemble in reverse
order.
8. With a new unit it
enable reception automatically. (If you have already placed anything in
memory anywhere, do a CPU reset. BAND UP and BAND DOWN while turning the
unit on.)
9. To make the TV work
just hold the SET (AF control.) momentarily. Switch off the same
manner.)
10. To change channels
just rotate the tuning knob. The channels are built in memorized.

IC-7000 (IC 7000 IC7000) TVRO & MARS (US
version) |
-
Remove CPU/DSP unit by unscrewing three
silver screws holding it down (the silver
box on the top of the radio with copper
taped sides) and pull up.
-
Locate four shift registers and bank of
diodes - shift registers are 4094's. There
are two next to each other and then a couple
more. We'll call the two stacked the "left"
ones
-
The "middle" shift register if looking from
the front of the radio is the target.
-
Locate bank of SMT diodes (silver with "K"
on top on one side) in front of the target
shift register. They are in two columns,
"left" and "right"
-
Unsolder one side of the second diode from
the front on the left and lift up one side
(or remove, slip to the side, whatever turns
you on)
MARS:
OK - here's an out-of-band mod that does TX from
0-54, 118-173, 400-470.

NOTE: The Automatic Repeater Shift on 2 meters

Edge Beep”, on the other hand, does not
function. |

TVRO:
- Lift off the the top half of the radio
case, after removing its securing screws.
- Refer to Figure 1. Remove CPU/DSP
unit by unscrewing two silver screws holding it down (the silver box
on the top of the radio with copper taped sides) and pulling the
unit up. (The screws are ringed in white.)

in two columns, "left" and "right".
- Unsolder one side of the second diode from
the front on the left and lift up one side (or remove, slip to the
side, whatever you are comfortable with.)

MARS/CAP:
Here is an out-of-band mod which allows
transmitting from 0-54, 118-173 and 400-470 MHz.
(Please observe radio regulations!)
- Remove CPU/DSP unit by unscrewing two
silver screws holding it down (the silver box on the top of the
radio with copper taped sides) and pull up. The screws are ringed
in white (see Figure 1).
- Locate four shift registers and bank of
diodes - shift registers are 4094's. There are two next to each

ones.
- The "left" shift register if looking from
the front of the radio is the target.
- Locate bank of SMT diodes (silver with "K"
on top on one side) in front of the target shift register. They are
in two columns, "left" and "right"
- Unsolder one side of the second diode from
the front on the left and lift up one side (or remove, slip to the
side, whatever you are comfortable with.)
- Note:
After the modification has been performed, the "Band Edge Beep"
feature will no longer function, even if it has been enabled.
NOTE: The Automatic Repeater Shift on 2 meters
and 440 is not affected by this mod
