  • 1 - Carefully pry off the front panel, then remove the plastic cover from the main radio.

2 - Remove the large rubber washer that goes around the top of the radio.

3 - Remove the eight screws holding the top shield.

4 - Locate and remove R119 (plainly marked) which is close to IC252, a large chip.

5 - Re-assemble. The radio automatically resets itself.
Packet data connector
The American version doesn't come with the packet data connector. Fortunately that's easy enough to fix.

You can open the rig by removing the plastic cover, the rubber gasket, and eight screws from the top. The pads for the packet connections are clearly visible on the left side of the board.

Hot-glue the wires after soldering to reduce stress on the joints and put a small cable tie on the cable just inside the notch in the case to keep it from getting yanked out accidentally. The wiring diagram for the connector is shown in the manual.

TM-271 E    Change & adjust the maximum (low and high) output RF power:

·         Remove the plastic cover,

·         Remove the rubber waterproof seal, and remove the 8 screws on the aluminum cover.

·         Set the radio so that the front is facing you.

·         Locate VR1 (measure approx. 5cm from the right and 5 cm from the back)

·         Rotate VR1 counter-clockwise to reduce the ouput power towards the setting you desire
Note: the relation between the low- and high power setting is about 2,5 x.
Example: If your maximum power is set to 50 watts your low power setting will be around 20 watts
